The Pencil Inc.: Even Leo Can Cite Scriptures for His Own Purpose

So a recent conversation with my friend has brought to my attention the topic of climate change and Leonardo DiCaprio. Not that it hasn't been a real issue, but it just isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I wake up. For my friend, however, it is. This guy is so passionate about the environment, it's kind of funny. It's also really necessary. It's kind of heroic in a way. We're the generation that needs to save the world. Let's start.

Basically, superstar and Oscar winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio explained in a recent interview about his "experience" of climate change whilst filming The Revenant in Alberta. "We would come and there would be eight feet of snow, and then all of a sudden a warm gust of wind would come,” DiCaprio told Variety.com, describing it as a “scary” vision of things to come. “It’s terrifying," he said, "and it’s what people are talking about all over the world. And it’s simply just going to get worse.”

What DiCaprio didn't know is that he was describing a phenomenon known as a chinook. I'm pretty sure any geologist hearing about this story had a good laugh. A chinook is described as a natural process in Calgary that brings down warm gusts of air. It was not an effect of global warming, and definitely not as scary as it seems. It's just a natural process.

The number one thing I learned from this story is to be educated. Leo's heart was in the right place. However, this doesn't give us an excuse. We need to know the facts and we need to know who and what we can trust to take facts from. In the words of my dear friend, "... all the other celebs, they can't just scare people like that... good thing the media's got everyone's back." Although that last part is something I never thought I'd hear, it's true. They have a responsibility.

If we want to save the world, we need to know the facts. Facts! Everyone can cite the Scriptures for their own purpose... Thankfully this is relatively harmless. Do your own research everyone, it's finally time to respect our environment.
